Yine O'dur sana İlahi Kelam'ı indiren. O'nun ayetlerinden bir kısmının hükmü kesin ve nettir; bunlar İlahi Kelam'ın anasıdır. Gerisi de müteşabihlerden oluşmuştur. Kalplerinde yamukluk bulunan kimseler, fitne çıkarmak ve tevil etmek amacıyla, onun müteşabih olan kısmının peşine düşerler. Oysa onun gerçek te'vilini kimse bilmez, yalnızca Allah (bilir); ve ilimde derinleşenler derler ki: "Biz ona inanırız, tümü Rabbimizin katındandır. Derin kavrayış sahiplerinden başkası bu gerçeği fark edemese de."

He sent down to you this scripture, containing straightforward verses - which constitute the essence of the scripture - as well as multiple-meaning or allegorical verses. Those who harbor doubts in their hearts will pursue the multiple-meaning verses to create confusion, and to extricate a certain meaning. None knows the true meaning thereof except GOD and those well founded in knowledge. They say, "We believe in this - all of it comes from our Lord." Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.

He is the One who sent down to you the Book, from which there are lawgiving revelations; they are the essence of the Book; and others which are of a similatude. As for those who have a disease in their hearts, they will follow that which is of a similatude, seeking to confuse, and seeking to derive an interpretation. But none know its interpretation except God, and those who are well founded in knowledge; they say: "We believe in it, all is from our Lord." And none will remember except those who possess intelligence.

As for those who have disease in their hearts, eager to cause confusion and eager to derive their interpretation, they will follow what is multiple-meaning from it. But none knows their meaning except God and those who are well founded in knowledge; they say, "We acknowledge it, all is from our Lord." None will remember except the people of intellect.

O, Kitap'ı, sana indirmiştir. Onun ayetlerinin bir bölümü, açık ve kesindir; Onlar, Kitap'ın anasıdır. Diğerleri de açık ve kesin olmayanlardır. Yüreklerinde sapma olanlar, karışıklık çıkarmak ve Ona olmadık anlamlar yüklemek için, açık ve kesin olmayanların ardından giderler. Oysa Onun anlamını, Allah'tan başkası bilmez. Bilgide derinleşenler ise şöyle derler: "Ona inandık; tümü, Efendimizin katındandır!" Zaten sağduyulu olanlardan başkası anlamaz.[60]
