Did you not note the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses, they said to their prophet: "Send us a king that we may fight in the cause of God;" he said: "Are you not concerned that if fighting is decreed for you, you will then not fight?" They said: "And why should we not fight in the cause of God when we have been expelled from our homes along with our children." So it was, that when fighting was decreed for them they turned away, except for a few of them! God is fully aware of the wicked.

Musa'dan sonra, İsrailoğullarının ileri gelenlerini görmedin mi? Kendilerine gelen bir peygambere, şöyle dediler: "Bize, bir kral gönder; Allah'ın yolunda savaşalım!" O da "Savaş üzerinize yazılmasına karşın savaşmazsanız?" dedi. "Allah'ın yolunda neden savaşmayalım? Üstelik yurdumuzdan ve oğullarımızdan uzaklaştırıldık!" dediler. Musa'dan sonra, İsrailoğullarının ileri gelenlerini gözünde canlandırmadın mı? Onlar Nebilerine "İçimizden bir başkomutan[1] çıkar da Allah yolunda savaşalım!" demişlerdi. "Ya savaş emredilir de savaşmazsanız?" dedi. "Kaybedecek neyimiz kaldı ki Allah yolunda savaşmayalım! Hem yurtlarımızdan çıkarılmışız hem çocuklarımızdan ayrı düşürülmüşüz." dediler. Savaş üzerlerine yazılınca, pek azı dışında hepsi kaçıverdi. O zalimleri bilen Allah'tır.

Şu olay dikkatini çekmedi mi? İsrail oğullarının ileri gelenleri, Musa'dan sonra peygamberlerinden birine, "Bize bir lider atasan da ALLAH uğrunda savaşsak" demişlerdi. "Ya savaş gerekir de savaşmazsanız?!" demişti. Onlar, "Yurdumuzdan ve çocuklarımızdan uzaklaştırılmış durumda iken neden ALLAH yolunda savaşmayalım" diye karşılık vermişlerdi. Fakat kendilerine savaş farz edilince pek azı hariç yüz çevirdiler. ALLAH zalimleri Bilir.[1]
