Did not news come to you of those before you: the people of Noah, and 'Aad, and Thamud, and those after them whom none know except God? Their messengers came to them with clarity, but they placed their hands onto their mouths and said: "We are rejecting what you have been sent with, and we are in doubt as to what you are inviting us to."

Sizden öncekilerin; Nuh, Âd ve Semud toplumlarının ve onlardan sonra gelenlerin haberleri size gelmedi mi? Allah'tan başkası onları bilmez. Elçiler onlara açık kanıtlarla gelmişlerdi. Fakat onlar, ellerini ağızlarına götürüp, şöyle dediler: "Aslında, sizinle gönderileni inkar ediyoruz. Aslında, bizi çağırdığınız şeyden derin bir kuşku duyuyoruz!"

Sizden önceki Nuh, Ad ve Semud halklarının haberi size ulaşmadı mı? Onlardan sonrakilerin haberlerini ise Allah'tan başkası bilmez. Elçileri onlara da açık belgelerle (ayetlerle) gelmişlerdi ama onlar, lafı ağızlarına tıkayarak şöyle demişlerdi: "Sizin elçi olarak gönderilmeniz bizi hiç ilgilendirmiyor, bizi çağırdığınız şeyden dolayı da kuşku veren bir şüphe içindeyiz."
