Mümin kadınların iffetlileriyle, sizden önce kendilerine kitap verilmiş olanların iffetli hanımları da mehirlerini verdiğiniz takdirde; iffetinizi korumanız, zinadan uzak kalmanız ve şunu-bunu dost tutmamanız şartıyla size helaldir. İmanı tanımayıp nankörlük edenin ameli boşa gitmiştir. Ve o, ahirette de hüsrana uğrayanlardandır.

Bugün, temiz ve güzel olan her şey size helal kılınmıştır. Üstelik, kendilerine daha önce vahiy gönderilmiş olanların yiyecekleri de size helaldir ve sizin yiyecekleriniz de onlara helaldir. Ve (son vahye) inanan iffetli kadınlar ile sizden önce kendilerine vahiy verilenlerin iffetli kadınları -kendilerine mali güvence vermeniz, onları meşru olmayan yolla ya da gizli dost tutma yöntemiyle değil de meşru bir akitle- nikahlamanız da (size helaldir). Kim imanı inkar ederse işte onun ameli boşa gitmiştir; üstelik o ahirette zarara uğrayanlar arasında yer alacaktır.

Today, all good food is made lawful for you. The food of the people of the scripture is lawful for you, [and your food is lawful for them] . Also, you may marry the chaste women among the believers, as well as the chaste women among the followers of previous scripture, provided you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain chastity, not committing adultery, nor taking secret lovers. Anyone who rejects faith, all his work will be in vain, and in the Hereafter he will be with the losers.

Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, and the food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the independent females from those who are believers, and the independent females from those who have been given the Book before you, if you have given them their dowries, to be independent, not for illicit sex or taking lovers. And whoever rejects belief, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.

Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, the food of those who have been given the book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the acknowledging independent women, and the independent women from the people of the book before you, when you have given them their wages, protected, chaste, and not seeking to take lovers. Whoever rejects acknowledgement, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers.
