Gelmedi mi onlara kendilerinden öncekilerin haberi: Nuh kavminin, Ad'ın, Semud'un, İbrahim kavminin, Medyen halkının ve altı üstüne gelmiş kentlerin. Resulleri onlara açık seçik ayetler getirmişti. Allah onlara zulmediyor değildi; aksine, öz benliklerine onlar zulmediyorlardı.

Yoksa kendilerinden önce geçip gidenlerin, Nuh kavminin, Ad ve Semud'un, İbrahim kavminin, Medyen ahalisinin ve bütün o altı üstüne gelmiş kentlerin (felaket) haberleri onlara ulaşmadı mı? Öncekilere (de) elçileri hakikatin apaçık delilleriyle gelmişlerdi (fakat inkar ettiler). Sonuçta, Allah onlara kıymış değildi; fakat onlar asıl kendi kendilerine kıydılar.

Have they not learned anything from the previous generations; the people of Noah, 'Aad, Thamood, the people of Abraham, the dwellers of Midyan, and the evildoers (of Sodom and Gomorrah)?
